Presentation

The original Myrmecology Meeting was created for gathering the specialists in ants from São Paulo State. Over the years those meetings became wider and since the one which took place in Londrina-PR, in 2001, the event is known as Myrmecology Symposium, maintaining the numbering sequence of the Meetings.

The XIX Myrmecology Symposium will take place in Centro de Artes e Convenções of Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, MG.

There are several activities planned for the week on November 17 - 21st, 2009. Through plenary sessions, round tables, workshops and works presentations, the Symposium will deal with several themes: bioindication through the myrmecofauna; evolutionary ecology theory; etology; urban ants management and control; the current situation of the leafcutter ants control in Brazil; taxonomy of Neotropical ants; molecular biology.

Besides, everyday in the event, a conference from the I French-Brazilian Myrmecology Symposium will be hold. Each conference will be supplied by two French researchers or by a French and a Brazilian, dealing with common issues to the two countries: biology of conservation; taxonomy; ecology; ants behavior and applied mathematical modeling. This meeting aims to confirm the collaborations in progress with France and to stimulate new interactions in several areas. 2009 is the year of France in Brazil, and this event will contribute to enrich the calendar.
